People migrated to unknown lands throughout human history to settle somewhere safe and with more opportunities, bringing their stories and culture with them. Today's migrant crisis woke up xenophobia and hate towards the migrants. Locals are sometimes judgemental of those vulnerable people without listening to their stories and understanding their perspective.
Documenting my own migrant culture can showcase some of the problems and hardships can each migrant can encounter.I have designed story maps based on my family migrating journeys throughout the history of Poland. Each tale is colour coded to represent the reason to migrate. Each story map can be printed on the A2 matt stock, and it is folded to A6 format.
I choose a red colour to showcase the danger my grandfather Franek has to overcome during and after World War 2.
Yellow represent my mother Teresa and her hopeful attitude towards moving from village to the city during the communist era.
Green is showcasing my growth in the United Kingdom and the healing process after my brother passing.
